CBS Entertainment President Glenn Geller faced questions on Tuesday (12 January) about the lack of diversity on the television network where he now heads the programming.
Geller pointed out that he himself is diverse.
‘I’m diverse, I fall into the LBGT category,’ he told journalists gathered at the Television Critics Association’s Winter Press Tour in Pasadena.
‘I’m just a gay guy from Indiana who doesn’t play basketball,’ said Geller who was appointed to his new post in September.
‘I mentioned my husband earlier, because I want to normalize my diversity. CBS will always reflect what American looks like.’
CBS, however, did not score high in last year’s GLAAD Network Responsibility Index which rated LGBT content on 15 networks during the 2014-2015 TV season.
While ABC Family and FOX ranked highest with ‘Excellent’ grades and ABC, CW, FX, HBO, MTV and Showtime ranked ‘Good,’ CBS raked only ‘Adequate’ along with NBC, TLC, TNT, USA.
